What affects accuracy?
The variables that affect accuracy of the test results are the use of first morning urine (at least 2.5 hours from last void), consuming excessive amounts of liquid within three hours of performing the test, shaking the test versus swirling, not disturbing the test during the 10 minute wait period, having unprotected sex within 48 hours prior to taking the test. Also, pregnant women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome are most likely to receive a BOY result so the test is not able to accurately predict the proper gender. Women taking Progesterone are recommended not to take the test while on Progesterone unless the test is taken after 10 days from last dose.

How does the test work if pregnancy is twins or multiples?
If you are having identical twins, the test works just like testing a single baby. However if the babies are fraternal twins, typically study results indicate that if the test indicates GIRL than one can assume the babies are all girls. If the test results indicate boy, than one can assume at least one of the babies is a boy. Some studies have indicated that with fraternal twins, and the test indicates BOY in less than the first five minutes of the undisturbed period, it is most likely all the babies are boys.

What if I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom) or am on Progesterone treatment?
We recommend that you do not test while on Progesterone (wait 10 days from last dose) or at all if you have PCOS as you will likely get a “boy” result and IntelliGender cannot represent the accuracy of this result.

Does sexual intimacy affect the results?
Preliminary tests indicate that there may be a link between false boy results and recent sexual intimacy. We recommend refraining from such activity for at least 48 hours prior to taking the test.

Can pregnant women use this test in place of a sonogram?
No, the test is designed as a fun, positive pre-birth experience for the parents-to-be. IntelliGender does not recommend test users to make any financial, emotional or family planning decisions based on the test results. This includes painting a nursery! Seeing an obstetrician as early in the pregnancy is critical for the health of the mother and the baby. Pregnant women should follow the advice of their physician for decisions related to their pregnancy.

When can an ultrasound determine the sex of the baby?
Most pregnant women receive an ultrasound between 18 to 20 weeks to evaluate dates, a multiples pregnancy, placenta location or complications. It may be possible to determine the gender of a baby during this ultrasound. Several factors, such as the stage of pregnancy, the technician and position of fetus, will influence the accuracy of the gender prediction during an ultrasound. To be 100% sure, women will have an anxious wait until the birth!

Are ultrasounds a necessary part of prenatal care?
Ultrasounds are only necessary if there is a medical concern. Ultrasounds enable a healthcare provider to evaluate the baby’s well being as well as diagnose potential problems. For women with an uncomplicated pregnancy, an ultrasound is not a necessary part of prenatal care.

Do doctors recommend the test?
The doctor’s role is to focus on the health of the baby and mother. The only way to get an accurate baby gender prediction is via a medical test such as an amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling test. In general doctors will not perform these invasive tests just for the purpose of baby gender prediction. Ultrasounds can provide a semi-accurate baby gender prediction as well, but wrong gender predictions are made regularly due to several factors, such as the stage of pregnancy, the technician and position of fetus, will influence the accuracy of the gender prediction during an ultrasound. To be 100% sure, women will have an anxious wait until the birth!
